Dogs do great things, die and are reincarnated. Lasse Hallstrom's 'A Dog's Purpose' based on W. Bruce Cameron's novel who also co-wrote the screenplay goes for the heart string tug, grab the box of tissues.

In the 1960s a stray puppy finishes up in the dog pound and wakes up as Bailey, (voiced by Josh Gad) a Golden Retriever adopted by 8-year-old Ethan (Bryce Gheisar). You've guessed it, they're inseparable and of course there's a grumpy dad (Luke Kirby) to contend with. The years pass, football stardom awaits Ethan, Hannah (Britt Robertson) lands in his life and dad goes downhill, the dog dies and lots of different dogs pop up doing daring things and of course adult Ethan (Dennis Quaid) and Hannah (Peggy Lipton) have a dog and Josh Gad's the mouth piece.

Go back and view 'My Life as a Dog' (1985). It's a Lasse Hallstrom gem.
