Blackwood, a remote country house deep in the English countryside seems the ideal move for professor Ben Marshall (Ed Stoppard), who's recovering from a nervous breakdown and needs peace and quiet and a fresh start.
Adam Wimpenny's feature film debut reworking of the classic British ghost story has all the bits expected - an English mist covered winter countryside, an ancient village church with a sinister bearded vicar, odd happenings during the night, strange visions, an old lady in a wheelchair, rustling trees, rows with his wife Rachel (Sophie Myles) and son Harry (Isaac Andrews) that could mean another trip to the psychiatrist but none of it adds up to much.
The scary moments are few and far between, there's little character development and the acting's poor.
