Former boxer and recovering alcoholic Bradley Thomas (Vince Vaughn) has lost his job as a mechanic and finds that his wife Lauren's (Jennifer Carpenter) been cheating on him. In need of cash Bradley gets into the drug running game with an old pal but when a deal goes wrong, he's into a seven year prison sentence and owes the Mexican drug cartel. His way out is to deal with an inmate with a six figure on his head. Only problem is he's in a different jail and Bradley needs to get himself transferred.
Writer-director S Craig Zahler offers a breath deeply, audience yell, look away as bones are broken and skulls crushed in a gut wrenching, blood-filled, ballet of violence. Peppered with some great one liners, Don Johnson's in his element as sadistic Warden Tuggs, Vince Vaughn with a cross tattoo on the back of a shaven head, strides the stage as the supreme demolisher, and that includes an hilarious early scene taking his frustration out on his car and the camera catches every brutal moment.
