Rebecca Hall is mesmerising as Christine Chubbuck, a 29-year-old news reporter at WZRB's station in Sarasota, Florida who killed herself on TV in 1974.

Ambitious and talented, a perfectionist plagued with self-doubt who won't shut up and conform, Christine wants out of small town, small time news stories and yearns for serious journalism. It's the 1970s male ego dominated workplace and the news room is changing. Her boss Michael (Tracy Letts) wants sensationalist stories in the ratings battle. 'If it bleeds, it leads.' Christine tries but the odds are against her.

A zero personal life, hints of a previous breakdown and an uneasy relationship with her mother Peg (J.Smith Cameron) add to the cloud of despair. A hoped for romance with the station's anchor George Ryan (Michael C. Hall) goes bizarrely pear shaped and disillusioned Christine's life takes a terrifying down hill spiral into psychological collapse.

A frightening finale, a desperate act, the station's got its sensationalist story.
