'An Internationally acclaimed, superbly performed portrait of hope within a North African immigrant community.'
Slimane (Habib Boufarse), a sixty year old North African immigrant has lost his job at the shipyard in the French Mediterranean port of Sete. Will he now open the restaurant of his dreams?
Slimane's dreamt of opening a couscous restaurant but needs the support of his extended family including his ex-wife Souad (Bouraouia Marzouk), whose grain and red mullet will be the main selling dish, his children, his mistress Latifa (Hatike Karaoui) and her hot-headed daughter Rym (Hafsia Herzi). Word goes round, Slimane's opening a couscous restaurant on a boat. Opening night arrives and the scene's set for a tense finale.
It's superbly performed, intimate with mouthwatering scenes of food and feasting and is an engrossing tale of hope, cultural identity and familial rivalries in a North African immigrant community. A delightful movie.
