Constantine 'Connie' Nikas (Robert Pattinson) isn't into master plans. He thinks he's tough and on the up in the criminal world. When Connie makes a choice, all bets are on that it'll go wrong and when he decides to hit a bank (a superb set piece) with his brother Nik (Ben Sadie) who's got learning difficulties, it goes pear shaped and Connie's on a going nowhere fast, violent, mayhem filled, downhill roller coaster. Nik's caught, beaten up in jail and now Connie needs to pull off another robbery to get Nik out of hospital. If that's not bad enough tapping girlfriend Corey (Jennifer Jason Leigh) for bond money doesn't work and her promised holiday in a glitzy Costa Rica hotel remains a dream but when just out of prison crazy Ray (Buddy Duress) bizarrely joins the game, we know where it's going.
Shot in close-up by Sean Price Williams, the title 'Good Time' has a certain irony. Played at times with a tongue-in-cheek touch, we know where it's going. The Sadie brothers pulsating family and fate crime thriller plays New York's grimy neon lit streets to the full with Robert Pattinson centre piece and on top form as the small time loser, always a bad choice man, lost in a frenetic, dead end downward spiral.
