'An operatic intergalactic fantasy that doesn't quite make Jupiter'.
It's presumed that 21st century filmic technology, fashion and visuals make a great film. They don't. 'Jupiter Ascending' has stunning visuals and great costume design but there's no Matrix magic.
Jupiter Jones (Mila Kunis) cleans toilets in Chicago. Well, someone's got to do it and if you're a Russian emigre, there's not many jobs on hand. Unaware that she's the reincarnated all powerful head of an intergalactic dynasty and destined for great things, it's a bit of a surprise when genetically engineered ex-military hunter,Caine (Channing Tatum) pops up with shoes that allow him to do a turn zipping between the skyscapers. Quite an act to impress the girls! Will Jupiter Jones inherit? Evil whispering Balem (Eddie Redmayne), friendly Kalique (Tuppence Middleton) and young scheming Titus (Douglas Booth) aren't too happy. They want the Abrasax crown. So it's zip across the galaxy, earth to Jupiter with a tympanum blowing musical score. And of course there's the bees. Tough man Stinger (Sean Bean) keeps them and they recognise royalty - 'bees don't lie'. Beat that.
Memorable moment. Terry Gilliam's cameo role as a form-filler. Long live Brazil.
You'll need to fly somewhere else for some intergalactic magic,
