Since his wife died novelist Paul (Stephane Guillon) only writes funeral orations and tries to help his friend and neighbour Victor (Pierre Richard), a researcher into the Holocaust trying to shrug off memories of his brother who died in the camps. One day Emma (Julie Gayet), a young widow, asks Paul to do a curious thing and tell her 8-year-old son about his dead father, Nathan (Jonathan Zaccai) who was a war photographer.
Will this turn into romance for Paul and Emma, who you've guessed it, is President Holland's latest pop in by the back door or will the ghosts of the past come to haunt them? Ghosts, you bet. Dead dad Nathan shows ap one night and knocks on Paul's door. Is he a ghost?
Don't look for a Woody Alan psychological witty probe into loss played out between the characters. 'Paper Souls' is an easy watch, light, fun romantic comedy.
