What category do I drop the enigmatic, inventive 'Personal Shopper' into? Ghost story, supernatural thriller, mystery thriller? Whatever, Kristen Stewart excels in Olivier Assayas' bag of mysteries, art house teaser.
Maureen (Kristen Stewart), a Paris based medium and personal shopper to supermodel Kyra (Nora Von Waltstatten) is bored and frustrated by her job. It's not a wow world even with haute couture garb and the trimmings, all too good not to try on and Kyra's apartment tempts the occasional stay over. It's a distance based relationship and there's the always the smart phone, today's ever present necessity.
Moody, eerie, hypnotic, mysterious. Kristen Stewart, calmly haunts her recently deceased twin brother's home who died of a heart defect, determined to make contact with him. Lewis promised to contact her. Will something happen? Will there be an edge-of-the -seat jump? And then Maureen begins to receive strange text messages but from whom? Who is the ghost?
Inventive and suspenseful with a touch of Hitchcock that delights in it's teasing. Sit back and enjoy. It's a pleasure.
