The stand alone 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' hits the button full on with action, adventure, fun and a touch of nostalgia. Imaginatively theatrical - cheer, boo, hiss, laugh and cry, visually great, a perfect cast and terrific performances. Fans will be happy.
Rebellion's in the air. Jyn Erso's (Felicity Jones) mission is to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire's ultimate planet destroyer created by her genius scientist father, Galen (Mads Mikkelsen) and stop the evil fanatical Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn's made for the part) with a little help from battle weary dissident Saw Guerrera (Forest Whitaker) and Rebel Captain Cassian Andor (Diego Luna). Battle scenes and X-wing dogfights, comedic scene stealers Chirrut Imwo (Donnie Yen), the blind warrior monk and reprogrammed droid K-2SO (Alan Tudyk) and it's all systems go. Factor in Darth Vader (voiced by James Earl Jones), the digital return of the late Peter Cushing as Death Star boss Moff Tarkin and Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) and followers will be drooling.
Star Wars may drop out of focus for a while but it never leaves you and a sudden nudge and you're back into an action filled, Rebels against the Empire war, good versus evil, stand alone film that dazzles with visually stunning effects, eye dropping locations and comic touches that delight. Great pre-Christmas fun.
