Middle-aged doctor Kostis starts a medical practice on a small Greek Island. After a gloomy winter, the summer arrives bringing boatloads of young holiday-makers with it. When vivacious Anna enters Kostis' clinic, her casual flirting stirs up a longing in him for his lost youth and impulsively, he decides to try and find her on the beach. Whilst they initially tolerate his company, Anna’s friends dislike him and although he accepts the humiliation of not fitting in, he cannot ignore his hopeless inferiority. Nonetheless, Kostis continues to pursue Anna, who seems blissfully unaware of the seedy thoughts he harbors.

Aided by vibrant cinematography, »Suntan« depicts the irreverent beauty of youth and the consequences of growing old. On bright, sunny beaches, dormant lust collides with naïve sexuality, while middle-aged decay stands in stark contrast to the allure of energetic, young bodies. Simultaneously seductive and unnerving, this provocative movie ruthlessly illustrates the inevitability of aging and the desperation born from unmet desire. Stockholm Film Festival.
