Clover (Ellie Kendrick) returns to the family farm in Somerset on the suicide of her much loved brother Harry. Distant from her moody, ill-tempered father Aubrey (David Troughton), Clover accepts the daily routines of a barely surviving farm devastated by the 2013 floods. Determined to find out what happened to Harry, Clover seeks to lay bare the rift with her father. If she'd stayed would Harry have killed himself?

Repressed characters in a desolate rain soaked landscape, beautifully captured by Nanu Segal's atmospheric cinematography, ably matched by Ben Baird's score battle with guilt, grief and self-blame.

'The Levelling' is an assured atmospheric feature debut from writer-director Hope Dickson Leach and that's quite something on a mini budget.
