Dr. Will Caster (Johnny Depp) researches Artificial Intelligence and wants to create a sentient machine that combines the collective intelligence of everything ever known with the full range of human emotions. Such controversial experimentation make him a prime target for anti-technology extremists who unknowingly become the catalyst for him to succeed—to be a participant in his own transcendence, to be independent of the material universe. The assassin's polonium laced bullet gives Will's wife Evelyn (Rebecca Hall) and best friend Max Waters (Paul Bettany), time to upload Will's mind to a computer and he's ready to invade everyone's brains. Is there any way of stopping Dr Will Caster's thirst for power ?
Bold, futuristic and spectacular ? There's plenty of special effects and technological chatter but it's all rather bland. Rebecca Hall is anxious and Johnny Depp seems unenthusiastic about the whole thing. Where's the imagination?
Far better to curl up in a comfortable armchair with The Eagle comic and follow Dan Dare and the Mekon.
The estimated budget for the movie was 100,000,000 dollars (£59,550,043)
