'An ambitious action-rich cops and robbers British thriller from writer-director Eran Creevy with touches of the John Woo and Ridley Scott (Executive Producer) full-on macho mode action sequences'.
Obsessed cop Max Lewinsky (James McAvoy) looses career criminal Jacob Sternwood (Mark Strong) during a London Docklands heist and is shot in the leg for his troubles. Three years later Jacob is drawn out of retirement when his son Ruan (Elyes Gabel) is shot in a botched robbery. Will Max get his man ?
This is a very British crime thriller with a very British cast. David Morrissey turns up as Max's dour boss Thomas Geiger, Peter Mullan is the old-school South London gangster Roy Edwards, Jacob's old time mentor and the wonderful Ruth Sheen steals the show as Iris, assassin Dean Warns (Johnny Harris) grandmother. Pity about James McAvoy who doesn't carry the part even with the very able support of his partner, Sarah (Andrea Riseborough). He's not made to be the lone tough cop pitted against Mark Strong - he's simply out of place.
The chrome and glass of Canary Wharf at night shines and glitters as a wonderful backdrop to the action sequences as the movie travels through this plot driven conspiracy between gangsters, cops and politicians.
