'One Central American illegal's journey to the land of plenty - a vivid and sobering story.'
A body's found in the Arizona Sonora desert, stunningly beautiful with a magnetic intensity. Sun bleached bones, a death in the desert 20 minutes by car from Tuscon. But who's the statistic? No passport or papers. It's the illegal run, the desperate yet forever optimistic journey from Central America to the 'Promised Land'.
Marc Silver's startling and masterful documentary film follows a dedicated team of compassionate forensic anthropologists from the Arizona Medical Examiner's office as they analyse the remains and seek out answers, their only lead being a 'Dayani Cristal' tattoo on his chest. As the forensic investigation proceeds, Mexican actor and activist Gael Garcia Bernal sets out to experience the dangers of riding 'The Beast', the train that runs the length of Mexico where Los Zetas gangsters have easy pickings, the motivations, hopes and fears of the illegal migrants as he retraces Davina Cristal's journey to 'the corridor of death.'
Blue colour workers are found in every American state. America needs them and they continue to come. Poor people are the spiritual reserve of the world and their only crime is a desire to feed and clothe their family.
'To set off is to die a little...' The Migrant's Prayer.
